Cheburashka sequel tops ₽6 billion at the box office
Cheburashka 2 surpasses ₽6 billion in ticket sales — the second film in the franchise to cross the milestone, reaching it in 52 days

The sequel to Cheburashka has exceeded ₽6 billion in theatrical box-office receipts, the industry publication "Bulleten Kinoprokatchika" reported on social media. The announcement confirms the picture’s strong commercial performance since its release.

It took the sequel 52 days to climb past the ₽6 billion threshold. Until now, only one film had managed to collect more than ₽6 billion: the first Cheburashka, whose cumulative box office stands at ₽6.793 billion. Notably, the original reached the ₽6 billion mark more quickly, accomplishing the feat in just 35 days of release.

The action of Cheburashka 2 unfolds a year after the ending of the first film. In the new episode, wealthy developers evict Gena and Cheburashka from their home to make way for an amusement park. In response, Cheburashka and his friends set off into the forest in search of a new home for Gena; along the way Cheburashka gets lost and unexpectedly runs into a hunter.

Cheburashka is a live-action remake inspired by the classic animated character and the stories of Eduard Uspensky. Audience ratings for the original film were 5.8 out of 10 on IMDb and 7.2 out of 10 on the Russian site Kinopoisk. The sequel premiered on January 1, 2026, and has so far been rated 4.9/10 on IMDb and 7.2/10 on Kinopoisk.

With this result, the sequel becomes the second film associated with the franchise to clear the ₽6 billion benchmark, underscoring the lasting commercial appeal of the Cheburashka property in the domestic market.
