Emil Boc, the mayor of Cluj-Napoca, has confirmed in a social media announcement that the Transylvanian city will host PGL esports events in 2027, 2028 and 2029, extending the local partnership after the initial back-to-back editions in 2025 and 2026. The extension turns the arrangement into a five-year commitment between the city and the tournament organizer.
PGL Cluj-Napoca has been scheduled as PGL's season-opening event in both 2025 and 2026, held in February. Organizers have already reserved date blocks for the next editions, with the 2027 tournament penciled in for February 13–21 and the 2028 event planned for February 9–21.
Since its debut, PGL Cluj-Napoca has increased in stature and competitive depth. The first edition featured four teams from the global top 10; by 2026 the field had expanded to include almost the entire elite, with only two top-10 sides absent. That rise has helped the tournament establish itself as a premier stop on the competitive calendar in just its second year.
Organizers also confirmed that future event playoffs will return to the city’s multipurpose BT Arena and will be staged in front of a live audience, mirroring the setup used for the 2025 and 2026 finals. The decision underscores the local authorities' and PGL's intent to maintain an in-person spectator experience for the climax of the tournaments.
The mayor’s announcement cements Cluj-Napoca’s role as a recurring host city for PGL and signals continuity for fans and teams planning their competitive schedules. With dates and venues already being secured well in advance, the extended run through 2029 provides stability for the event and the local esports ecosystem.
