Netflix announces a sequel to KPop — Demon Hunters with original directors returning; release date yet to be set

Netflix has announced that the animated film KPop — Demon Hunters will receive a sequel. The streaming service revealed the follow-up on its social media channels and confirmed that the pair who directed the original film, Chris Appelhans and Maggie Kan, will return to lead the new installment. A premiere date has not been announced.

Reacting to the announcement, one of the film’s creative leads, speaking as a Korean director, said they feel immense pride that audiences want to see more of this Korean story and its characters. They added that the world they and their team built still holds many untold elements, and they are eager to share more — calling the new film only the beginning.

The original KPop — Demon Hunters was released on June 20, 2025. It earned positive viewer scores, receiving a 7.5 out of 10 on IMDb and a 7.7 out of 10 on Kinopoisk. The film also achieved critical recognition: it won Golden Globe awards for Best Animated Film and Best Original Song, and it was among the contenders in the Academy Awards race.

With the creative team reunited and the story world still open for expansion, fans can expect further development of the characters and setting. For now, details about the sequel’s plot, cast, and release schedule remain under wraps while production gets underway.
