Filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung — whose credits have been cited alongside titles such as Minari and The Mandalorian — has stepped down from the director’s chair on the upcoming prequel to Ocean's Eleven, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The departure was confirmed by the trade outlet but the report did not offer further production details or an explanation for the change in creative leadership.
At this stage, virtually nothing about the new prequel has been publicly disclosed: there is no official plot synopsis and no confirmed cast list. The project is being produced by LuckyChap, the production company owned by actress Margot Robbie. Industry rumors have linked Robbie to one of the lead roles, and some reports have also mentioned Bradley Cooper in possible involvement, but none of those casting reports have been verified by the studio or filmmakers.
Early development on the picture initially attached veteran director Jay Roach to the project. With Chung's exit, the search for a new director is expected to resume, although sources have not provided a timeline for when a replacement might be announced or when production would begin.
For context, the 2001 Ocean's Eleven was itself a remake of the 1960 Rat Pack film featuring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. The 2001 remake spawned two sequels and later inspired a female-led spinoff. As of now, no production schedule, release window or formal casting confirmations have been released for the new prequel.
