A number of high-profile game developers, including EA DICE, PlayStation, Riot Games, Xbox, Bungie and several other large studios, abruptly canceled their scheduled appearances for the final day of the Game Developers Conference. In total, 23 presentations were removed from the timetable — a change first highlighted by a user known as DrkFX on X.
Organizers and the companies involved have not provided an official explanation for the mass withdrawals. Observers on social media have speculated that some developers may have chosen to travel home early to save costs after the main awards ceremony took place a day earlier, on March 12. No studio spokespeople or conference representatives have publicly commented on the situation.
The Game Developers Conference is the industry’s largest annual gathering for game creators, and the 2026 edition runs from March 9 through March 13. The unexpected cancellations were concentrated on the conference’s final day, significantly reducing the scheduled programming for that day.
The incident follows a separate, earlier development in which Bungie canceled two of its planned sessions related to the shooter project Marathon. That earlier move prompted part of the audience to suggest the cancellations were connected to weak public interest in the title, a theory that remains unconfirmed.
