Russian Ministry of Culture refuses distribution certificate for historical drama 'Nuremberg', distributor seeks government screenings

The historical drama "Nuremberg" will not be released in Russian cinemas after the Ministry of Culture declined to issue a distribution certificate for the film, according to the trade publication "Bulleten kinoprokatchika." The decision means the picture cannot be legally shown in commercial movie theaters across the country.

Authorities did not specify a concrete reason for the refusal. In its decision the ministry referred to subparagraph "z" of point 19 of the Procedure for Issuing a Film Distribution Certificate, a clause that allows denial in "other cases specified by federal laws." Representatives of the film's distributor, World Pictures, said they are willing to organise screenings at the governmental level so that an informed, reasoned decision can be made about whether the film should be shown to Russian audiences.

The film's international premiere took place in the autumn of 2025. It had been scheduled for a Russian theatrical release on March 19. Online ratings for the picture stand at 7.4 out of 10 on IMDb and 6.6 out of 10 on the Kinopoisk website.

World Pictures has publicly indicated readiness to present the film to relevant government bodies in hopes of clarifying the reasons behind the refusal and potentially securing permission for a domestic screening, but no further procedural steps or appeals have been announced.
