An industry insider known as Billbil-kun has reported that Starfield, previously a timed Xbox exclusive, is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 on April 7, 2026. The source has a track record of providing accurate information about PlayStation Store updates, lending credibility to the claim.

According to the insider, the PlayStation edition will be offered in two versions — a standard edition and a premium edition — and Microsoft will also distribute physical disc copies. Preorders for the PS5 release are said to open on March 18.

The potential PlayStation launch follows public comments from Microsoft’s former head of gaming, Phil Spencer, who in January 2025 indicated that Microsoft would not necessarily lock its titles to one platform and suggested that games could appear where they can find players and commercial success.

For context, Starfield originally launched on September 6, 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X/S. On the review aggregator Metacritic the title holds an average critic score of 83 out of 100 and a user score of 6.8 out of 10, reflecting a mix of critical praise and more divided player opinions.

If confirmed, the PlayStation release would mark a notable platform expansion for one of Microsoft’s biggest single-player RPGs and could widen the game’s audience ahead of any future content or editions the studio plans to support.
