Hideo Kojima Announces Major Free Update for Death Stranding 2 With New Modes, Cut Scenes and 21:9 Support

With the launch of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on PC, the game will receive a substantial free content update. Hideo Kojima has confirmed that this update will arrive at the same time as the PC release and will also be provided to players on PlayStation 5.

Among the headline additions is a new hardcore mode called To the Wilder and an option to replay boss encounters. The update will also restore cut scenes that were omitted from the original release for various reasons and introduce extra story episodes that further explore the protagonist's inner struggles.

Beyond narrative material, the developers plan to add new in-game items and implement support for ultrawide 21:9 displays. The update will include gameplay adjustments informed by player data collected since the initial launch, aimed at refining balance and overall experience.

A small but notable cosmetic and world detail will appear in Sam's cabin aboard the ship: a new element referred to as the Chiral Cat. This and other touches are intended to deepen the game's atmosphere and give returning players fresh things to discover.

Death Stranding 2 is scheduled to arrive on PC on March 19, 2026. The original release on PlayStation 5 took place in June 2025, and the developers have previously published the game's system requirements. The forthcoming free update will be available to both new PC players and existing PS5 owners when the PC version launches.
