DreamWorks Animation together with Universal Pictures has unveiled their upcoming animated feature Forgotten Island. The studio presented the project and initial promotional materials for the film, describing it as a new family adventure rooted in regional folklore and contemporary friendship drama.
The story follows two girls who have been best friends since elementary school. When one of them leaves to study in the United States, their relationship begins to drift apart. On what they intend to be their final evening together, the ground unexpectedly opens beneath them, and they find themselves transported to a mysterious island populated by fantastical beings drawn from Philippine legends.
Forgotten Island is scheduled to premiere on September 25, 2026. The principal roles are voiced by actress Liza Soberano and the singer H.E.R., who bring the film's central duo to life.
The picture is written and directed by Joel Crawford and Hanuel Mercado. The pair are credited as filmmakers who previously worked on titles such as Puss in Boots 2 and The Croods: A New Age, and they continue in those creative roles for this new release. The project emphasizes a blend of modern coming-of-age themes with elements of Southeast Asian myth and imagination.
